WOW! The CNC laser cut pieces are great. The photo at left is the
rear fence after initial bending. I have left the Sonex stickers on
during the bending and initial fitting for reference to the drawing
assembly instructions. After initial bending the parts fit perfect. It
only took a short time to remove the original assembly. I taped all
openings to the intake to prevent debris from getting in.
The photo at right shows the left front piece after bending. I will have to
trim this piece to fit around the exhaust wrap I installed. It only makes
about a 1/16th of an inch difference. The photo at right shows the first
fit. All components were just clamped in place to make sure fit was
good prior to any rivet installation. It was at this point that I marked the
angle pieces for their rivet locations. I first secured the angle pieces to
the cylinder heads then drew a line at the top and one side of the angle
on the side fence. I then removed the side piece and drilled one hole at
checked the fit. In all four cases it came out right the first time. After I
clecoed the angles from the outside I re-installed the fence and secured
it into position with the bolt/screw. When I was sure of alignment and
fit I drilled the second holes and riveted them in position. The photo at
right shows the installation. Note the grommet around the EGT lead to
protect it. Also that tab is a bent to fit tab. The rear fence has two of
these tabs also. The tabs were not explained on my drawing but, thanks
go to Drew Waterworth for explaining how the tabs were to fit. I am
sure that the drawings will note it in the future.

With the angles riveted in place on the side fences I then
positioned and, drilled and clecoed everything in place so as to get
the best fit and seal possible. I will Adel clamp the leads to the
EGT and CHT for all four cylinders to the side fences after the
final fitting, trimming and installation of the baffle seals. The lower
left photo shows all the through fence grommet installations at this
point. All through fence openings for wires, tubes etc will have a
grommet and will be sealed with RTV high temp sealant.
These photos show the first fitting prior to trimming the fences.
As you can see the fence was right up against the cowl this was
true of both the side and rear fences. The front left and right
pieces on my installation required the addition of a 1/2 inch
extender. All others were right where they needed to be. I have
no idea why this was required at this point. I needed to trim just
under a half inch to get the compression right for the baffle seal.
After trimming was complete I attached the baffle material to
the fences with double side carpet tape (right photo) after
installing the left cowl and ensuring that the fit was good and
providing the proper seal,I then drilled and clecoed the material
in place and checked the cowl fit again. Small adjustments
were made each time until the fit was correct.
