Wing Rigging
Wings were rigged to the fuselage on March 17, 2006. (6.0 hours) Another major milestone reached, however, it could not have gone
so well or easy without the help of a few good friends, Bob Adams (Sonex 71) , Dale Johnson (Zodiac and Rans S6ES Builder/Pilot),
and Dean Davis (fellow pilot and Yankee owner). A special thanks to Bob Adams who made this day an easy, and fun event and my
Wife Anna, my fellow builder and partner. Do to a back injury I had put this day off for longer than I wanted but, with proding from
my fellow builders and a promise not to laugh if I could not get up after bending over, I decided to go ahead this day.

The fuselage was moved into position and leveled. level was
checked in all directions. The driveway is very level in an
area of about 18 by 24 feet. It was a calm and sunny day. I
could not have asked for a better day to accomplish this
task. Temp ranged in the high 70s. Once the fuselage was
leveled Bob Adams and Dale Johnson brought up the wings
from the workshop.
Bob Adams (left) and Dale Johnson bring up the right wing
from the shop. After the right and left wings were placed
into position, initial measurments taken, shims placed,
clamped and incidence set, The rear spar was attached to
the rear spar carry through. Everything was again measured,
angles checked and the fuselage checked for level again then
everything was re-clamped. checked again and the drilling
began.
Rear Spar was attached drilled clecoed. measurements
rechecked. ( everything was right on spec). At this point I
was amazed at how it all came together. The fit was so
close that only very minor adjustments were needed to get
the required numbers.

riveting. Into position.
Left and Right Main Spar after drilling into forward
attachments. I think that this had to be the most scary
drilling I have done to date. Everything went perfect. The
holes were tight fit, with no deformation at any position.
After drilling the check of all the measurments were right
on the numbers. I dont know how Sonex does it but if
you build to the plans it comes out ringt on the numbers.

riveting and rechecking. As you can tell this is one happy
Waiex Builder at this point.
After all the fitting, clamping, measuring, drilling,
clecoing and riveting, then the final recheck and all is
well. I will wait until after the gear is installed to make
the final cuts on the the wing doublers. I will also
complete the tail installation. I did not want it installed
until after all the moving and wing fitting was complete.
It made it a lot easier to move and gave me one less ting
to worry about during the fitting. After its on its gear it
will be easier to move around and fit into the garage. It
wont be long now before it goes to the hanger in
Dunnellon.
