Landing Gear & Fairings

Tricycle landing gear installation
The Gear socket installation took a lot of maneuvering around to ensure
that the placements were equal to each other as to their relationship to the
fuselage. I found the best way to complete the measurements was to
measure not only at the firewall and engine mount but, at the distance to
the aft fuselage for both the assembly and with the titanium gear legs.
Believe it or not they were not coming out square to each other without
those cross checks completed. Once the assemblies checked out it was
time to drill them into position and cleco them. With the gear positioned
and clecoed they came out right on the numbers. Holes were updrilled
and the assemblies were bolted into position. That sure make this area
very strong.

The hole in the bottom of the fuselage was made by drilling a small hole in
what was believed to be the skin directly under the gear leg socket. After
that was done I used a Dremel with a metal cutting rasp to enlarge the
hole until it conformed to the socket. I kept trying the gear leg until the
clearance was correct and tight. It worked out quite well.
