Tip Rib, Nav Light Flap and Aileron installation
|
Pictured at left is the 45 degree tip of the main spar that the tip rib will be riveted. I have
heard some comments as to the fit of the fiberglass wingtip however, in my case the rib
fit was excellent as pictured below. This is another strong case for buying the complete
kit. In my case every part I have touched has fit exactly as the plans dictate. Way to go
Sonex!
At left is a good photo that shows the initial fit of the tip
rib. As stated above the fit was almost perfect. At right
the tip rib is drilled for the nav/strobe combo to be
installed later in this section. This is not on the plans and
is my choice to add it is not required. That project will
require some additional fiberglass work. It is a choice I
have made to ensure grater visibility. More on this later.
At left is the fit of the Aileron after placing the hinge as
called out in the plans. another example of the pre
drilled pilot holes and the CAD laser cutting of the
Sonex /Waiex kits. It doesn't get much better than this.
At right is the wing station call out mark for the
Aileron hinge. This group of parts is starting to look
like a left wing for a Waiex.
The photo at far left is another view of the initial fit
of the Aileron. The right photo is a view of the initial
fitting of the Flap. The photos below show the final
fitting of the flap and aileron and completed riveting
of the left wing. The wing is complete short of the
final fiberglass work on the tip rib and nav light.
