Wing Construction Applying The Wing Skins
|
I asked fellow Sonex Builder and pilot Bob Adams to drop
by and check the alignment and leveling. After correcting a
few minor items I am finally getting started on skining my
wings. The process starts with the upper aft skin. The
pre-drilled skin matched all rib center lines and aligned with
the spars perfectly. After the drilling of all holes were
completed the wing was rotated.
The process continues with the lower aft skin. Just as
was the case with the upper skin, alignment was perfect.
After drilling its on to the forward wing skin.
This skin requires help. My wife Anna was my partner
during this operation. The photos of the bracing and
straping were omitted to save space. As has been the case
with all skins, The forward skin matched all holes and fit
perfectly. THANKS SONEX. This kit is really done right. A
special thanks to my wife for all her help with this part.
No suprise here. The doubler / wing walk goes on
without a hitch. Now its on the the tip rib installation,
Aileron and Flap. Then I get to take it all apart again to
debur, dimple the forward skin and ready the assembly
for riveting.
